In Depth

The entire play takes place within a child's bedroom. The scenery can be as simple or as complicated as one desires. A bed with a sleeping bag on the floor would suffice, or a backdrop of a bedroom would also work. Three children are in the bedroom - their father has allowed them to sleep in the same room this evening.

During the play, there are appropriate places to insert either contemporary songs or hymns about Jesus' sacrifice.  Ideas are provided in the text.

As the play begins, the children have just come from their church's Maundy Thursday service and that have all sorts of questions. The two youngest wake their older sister up to sing them a bedtime lullaby. After that, they start asking her questions about the service.

Suddenly, there is a knock at the door. It is their father. He had heard noises and comes to check on them. They try but fail to hide the fact that they were up. He asks them what they were doing and they start asking him questions about the service and what it meant that Jesus had to die for them.

Appropriate songs may be added at various points in the play (optional choices have been noted).

As the play concludes, the father brings the children cookies and milk and uses them as an example to explain the Lord's Supper.
