FATHER:
The word ‘Maundy' is from a French word that
means ‘mandate' or ‘command.' They use that
word because Jesus told us that He wanted us to
do what He did - to remember Him with the Last
Supper.
BRIANNA: Is that what Communion is?
FATHER: Yes. Once a month we celebrate Communion
at our church. That's when you see me take the
bread and drink from the cup.
BRIANNA: But why did they have it tonight?
FATHER: Because tonight we are remembering the
actual day that Jesus had His last supper with
the disciples. You see, tomorrow is the sad day
when we remember Jesus died on the cross.
BRIANNA: Then, why do they call it Good
Friday?
FATHER: No one's sure, but some think that it
was originally called ‘God's Friday' but it
was changed over time. But, you can also say
that Jesus died for our good.
JESSIE: Why did Jesus have to die?
FATHER: That's a really good question, Jessie.
It's also a really hard question to answer, but
try to look at it this way: what happens when
you do something wrong?
JESSIE: You get mad at me?
FATHER: And?
AMBER: You send her to her room.
FATHER: Exactly. You have to be punished for the
things you do wrong. It's the same way with God.
We all do things that God doesn't want us to do.
God calls those things ‘sin.' And He tells us
that we have to die for those things.
BRIANNA: (incredulous) We have to die?
