This is a
three act version of the parable of the Prodigal
Son set in renaissance times. The entire
production is presented in rhyme. The Prodigal
Son is now a prodigal princess who leaves her
kingdom with her attendant and a devious knight.
As she travels and her money runs out, the
princess comes upon a forest nymph who opens her
eyes to the reality around her. She slowly
discovers that she really belongs at home and
eventually she returns to the kingdom and into
the welcoming arms of her parents.
The
play uses a combination of silly rhyme,
drama and comedy to present the
entertaining and uplifting story. Side
elements including an assistant to the
king who can’t rhyme, a trumpeter with
curious trumpet calls, an evil woman and a
crazy queen mother add to the fun.
