Story
Derivation:
The
three short vignettes in this production are
based upon Jesus' anguished prayer in the Garden
of Gethsemane. In this prayer, Jesus asks the
Father if there is another way ("take this
cup from Me" or that "the hour might
pass" from Him). Clearly, God's Will is for
the crucifixion and Jesus knows it. He is fully
aware that He must do the right thing, even
though it will result in tremendous suffering
for Himself. Paraphrased, Jesus is asking
"Why Does it Have to be Me?"
Do
we face suffering in life such as Jesus faced?
Do we face times in life where the right
decision may mean suffering for ourselves or
even others? Have we ever asked ourselves,
"Why Does it Have to be Me?"
The
three vignettes present contemporary stories in
three different situations where an important
(sometimes life-altering) decision must be made.
The "right" decision is one which will
likely result in the suffering of the character.
This happens through the possibility of a lost
job, ostracization by friends or even something
as simple as not being able to give a desired
gift to a brother.
As
each of the vignettes closes, the characters
speak the words "why does it have to be
me?"
